What Is Metabolism

What Is Metabolic Typing?

Metabolic Typing is a nutritional method that identifies how our bodies react to foods and nutrients we eat. Currently, only a few successful and well researched diets incorporate metabolic typing as part of their diet or a healthy eating regiment.

Why Use Metabolic Typing

It is a well known fact that in order to survive we all need macro and micro-nutrients. Macro-nutrients are carbohydrate, protein and fats. Micro-nutrients include vitamins and minerals. In order to be healthy we require a full spectrum of these nutrients.

It is also well known that individuals are genetically different. This genetic difference also exists at the level of our requirements for the various nutrients. As well, this genetic difference explains why people react differently when it comes to the processing and utilization of the foods and nutrients we consume.

Thirdly, it is also well known that “one size fits all” diets simply do not work. What is good for the gander is not necessarily good for the goose! Over the years, and billions of dollars later, we clearly see that one diet may work for some but for others it does not work and, in fact, it may be not sustainable and it may eventually even lead to a weight gain.

In order for a diet or a healthy eating plan to work, those genetically different nutritional requirements must be considered. This is not difficult and can be achieved by metabolic typing.

What Does Basic Metabolic Typing Tell Us

The food and nutrients we consume provides the fuel for the biological and chemical processes that eventually lead to the production of energy that our bodies need to function (metabolism). All these biochemical processes that take place in our bodies to support life depend on the quality and the quantity of the fuel (food and nutrients) we take in and how fast the converted fuel (energy) gets into our cells.

If your nutrition does not provide the right kind of fuel that is specific for your body, your body cannot convert the food into energy efficiently. In other words, your body cannot “burn” the fuel efficiently.

As a result, it gets stored as fat. Metabolic typing alleviates this potential problem. Although, it is not a new discovery, only in the last few years successful diets began to incorporate metabolic typing in their healthy eating plans.

To perform metabolic typing is fairly simple. A basic metabolic typing primarily consists of a comprehensive questionnaire, based on which, the metabolic type is determined. An individual may be one of three metabolic types:

    1. Protein Metabolic Type - generally does well on about 40% protein, 30% fat and 30% carbohydrates. He generally loves food and typically craves rich, fatty and salty foods. He often feels hungry even after a meal. Too many carbohydrates induce sugar cravings, yet sugar often makes this type jittery and will cause a quick energy drop. Protein types cannot lose weight by drastically reducing calorie intake. Learn more…

    1. Carb Metabolic Type – usually does well on 25% protein, 15% fat and 60% carbohydrates. He generally has a weak appetite, often skips meals and often compensates with caffeine. Frequently, these types send their metabolism into a starvation mode, hence the reduction of metabolism. Reduced metabolism leads to overweight and obesity. Learn more…

  1. Mixed Metabolic Type – fares well on about 30% protein, 20% fat and 50% carbohydrate. This is an easiest type to manage. Meal variety is essential for this type. Learn more…

As you experiment with metabolic typing, remember that each person is unique and that some fine-tuning will be required as you change your eating habits.

Knowing your metabolic type allows you to chose your food wisely and ensure that the food you consume is “burnt” efficiently. This will lead to weight loss and potentially, improved health

As I mentioned before, only a few diets on the market today incorporate the metabolic typing into their weight loss diet plans. The Diet Solution Program is one of them! What is of importance is not only that their diet program helps you determine your metabolic typing, but, that among others, this program helps you chose the right mix of foods for your metabolic type to ensure your system works most efficiently.
