BMI Calculator – Find Out If You Need To Lose Weight
BMI calculator calculates the Body Mass Index (BMI). Body mass index is a ratio of a person’s weight to his/her height. Currently, the index is one the simplest yet accurate indicators for body fat of most people.
BMI does not measure fat directly. However, research has shown that the index is a reliable indicator as it correlates well with direct body fat measurements.
The BMI calculator provides one with a value that is used as a gauge to determine whether one’s weight may potentially pose a health risk. In general most people with a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 (normal range, see table below) have a smaller chance of a health risk. When BMI falls below or increases above the normal range, health risks increase. In other words, both the underweight and overweight individuals’ health may be impacted. (Please note that the BMI is not a diagnostic tool. Only a healthcare professional can definitively determine whether your weight poses a danger to your health).
Use the BMI calculator below to find out your BMI.
BMI Calculator for Adults (ages 20 and up)
A BMI of 18.5 – 24.9 indicates a healthy weight. Individuals with BMI below 18.5 are considered underweight, where as the BMI of overweight persons ranges between 25 and 29.9. BMI of 30 and above is considered obese.
| BMI | Weight Status |
| Below 18.5 | Underweight |
| 18.5 – 24.9 | Normal |
| 25.0 – 29.9 | Overweight |
| 30.0 and Above | Obese |
Bear in mind that since the BMI calculations do not consider body composition but only uses weight and height measures there are instances when the BMI values do not correctly assess body fat. This is a case of bodybuilders whose BMI may be in the above normal range but who are obviously not overfat. The correlation may also slightly vary by sex, race and age.
